M S Gill Ex Election Commissioner-A National shame

 30th May-2009

The ex Election Commissioner M S Gill has become a second term Minister. I can not but help in seeing him as a National Shame.

He may believe himself to be a totally honest man but the very fact that he jumped on to the band wagon of a Political party after his retirement was and is shameful.

How can one believe that he was neutral while he was the Election Commissioner? There are certain norms of decency for which no rules are laid in any law but the individuals, who occupy high Constitutional posts are supposed to know about them and follow them.

Mr Gill, by his greed for power, has set a shameful precedent and the likes of Naveen Chawla, already under cloud are sure to follow suit.

    Dear Mr. Sharma,
I fully endorse your views. No bureacrat in India can reach dizzy heights and coveted posts would be offered only to those bureaucrats who helped the politicians or colluded with them in their wrong-doings. As an EC he could have misused his position to favour one party. In India who have no self-discipline, known for their lack of integrity and dishonesty are jumping into politics. He is not an exception. If you recall the events where medals were won by Indians, the contribution of either the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports or the Sports Authority of India was negligible. The individuals because of their hardwork and excellent coachings received personally could win medals. Sports Authority of India is a white elephant. Expenditure Reforms Commission constituted a few years back by the Central Govt. came down heavily on SAI as it had more group A posts than in any central govt. organisations. you cannot brush aside the fact that most of the appointments were irregular and without getting proper approval. If you have political pressure, you can join the autonomus organisation under govt. of india. I am sure, M.S. Gill did never show his capabilities as an extraordinary bureaucrat who could ensure redressal of grievances of the huge population. I do not think he will be able to successfully discharge his coments.
